There are always lots of exciting events at Folly Farm. Every day there are free timetabled events, including zoo animal talks and animal encounters in the Jolly Barn. We also have one-off special events such as World Lion Day and evening concerts. And our family fun days and magic shows bring a little something extra to all the usual fun to be had.Our zoo is a truly special day out.
When you visit us, you’ll see many animals you’re unlikely to find anywhere else. Some are in danger of becoming extinct, and we look after them in purpose-built, award-winning enclosures, designed to give them the best living conditions.
At Folly Farm zoo, you’ll see the only giraffes in Wales, and can look them straight in the eye from the Giraffe Heights walkway. And we’re one of only six zoos in the UK that cares for the critically endangered Eastern black rhino. You can also see zebras, ostriches, Bactrian camels, bongos, lemurs, meerkats, tapirs, Barbary macaques, squirrel monkeys…the list goes on!
You’ll see our aviaries, where all sorts of unusual birds live. You might be familiar with some of them – like parrots, owls, cranes, herons and storks. But what about a kookaburra, turaco or ibis? Or a pair of lovebirds? Sound exotic? Wait till you see them! And at Folly Interactive, you can get a really close look at snakes and tortoises, macaws, armadillos, sloths and fruit bats.
You’ll be literally inches away from all these amazing creatures. You can even feed some of them. And our zoo keepers give regular daily talks to tell you all about them.
Conservation at the zoo
We’re passionate about preventing any animal from becoming extinct. So we take part in breeding programmes and raise money to help protect animals in the wild. We’re proud to be members of the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA) and the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA). Our membership means we share knowledge with leading zoos across the UK and Europe, and we learn from them to Come along to the petting farm in the Jolly Barn, where even the smallest children can see and touch some of our best-loved animals.
The Jolly Barn was once the farm’s dairy parlour, but now it’s a firm favourite with families. Part of our farm park, it’s the perfect place to introduce your little ones to farm animals for the first time.
Who’s in the Jolly Barn?
You’ll find almost every farm animal you can think of. From ferrets and fancy mice to miniature ponies, shire horses, donkeys and goats. They’re all in the Jolly Barn. And, of course, no farm would be complete without lambs, hens and chicks. You can also milk the cows – our lifelike plastic models!
Over the road, there’s Percy’s Piggery plus llamas, alpacas and more goats and sheep. So we have plenty of space for lots of children to enjoy. They’ll also learn something, too – about how these animals live, and the rare breeds we keep.
During our timetabled activities we supervise everyone carefully to keep them safe while they’re having fun. And we look after hygiene too, with plenty of hand-washing facilities. So you don’t have to worry.
